Bootcamps vs coaching

So many interesting reality TV shows are based on geniuses coming in and revamping/redeeming an otherwise irredeemable situation. Take for example Kitchen Nightmare and The Dog Whisperer.

Kitchen Nightmares typically involves Gordon Ramsay coming into a restaurant at the brink of extinction. He critiques the decor, the hygiene, the taste of the food served and the interpersonal relations. In a whirlwind week, he sets about rectifying the wrong direction that owners have taken/ allowed to take root and gives the establishments a modern look and feel. The dog whisperer with Cesar Milan is very similar in these regards except that he deals with dog owners having aggressive/ emotionally damaged dogs and tries in a short amount of time - a few months - to eliminate the undesired behaviour. Both of these guys succeed in the short term but recidivism is astonishingly high in both cases especially in the case of Kitchen nightmares.

Both Gordon Ramsay and Cesar Milan are attempting to solve a problem and it appears for a while like their methods are bearing fruit. The situation starts unravelling because the owners of the dogs and the restaurants start reverting to their bad habits in the absence of supervision. What could help is to have coaches assigned to the owners and have these coaches work with them over the course of 2-3 years.
